Snow pictures present special challanges for photographers.  Lighting can be especially tricky.  In the American Southwest snow may not be common and when it does snow the sun often comes out soon afterwards and it melts quickly.

A painter friend explained that to paint realistic snow the artist must include blue and orange in the pigment..

Since we live where mountains and trees are common there are frequent good opportunites to combine snow with other scenic vistas.  During the winter of 2006-2007 we had record breaking amounts of snow and were able to take hundreds of pictures of cacti, yucca and trees in the snow.  As the snow has melted the spring flowers are more abundant that I have ever seen.  Of course, when all that growth dries out in the heat of summer, the fire danger will go out of sight.

This website displays only a few of our collection of snow pictures.  At Walking Rain Gallery we have more, as well as many pictures of other subjects.  Clicking links on this site will take you to the snow category of Walking Rain Gallery.
